Recovery agreement

You appoint Find My Unclaimed as your authorised representative for the sole purpose of recovering the unclaimed property records identified in this agreement from the state named in it. This authority is limited to that recovery. It is not a power of attorney over anything else.

Our fee is 10 percent of the amount actually recovered and paid to you. If the state pays a different amount than estimated, the fee is 10 percent of the amount actually paid.

The fee becomes payable only after you have received the funds. We invoice you; the money does not pass through us and we do not require your bank details.

No retainer, no hourly charge, no filing fee, no expense reimbursement, no cancellation charge. If the claim fails, is rejected, or you cancel, the total amount you owe us is zero. We bear the cost of any records we had to purchase on your behalf.

Every state caps what a recovery firm may charge. If the cap in the governing state is lower than 10 percent, the fee is the cap, automatically, without you having to ask. Nothing in this agreement may be read to authorise a fee above the statutory maximum, and if any term would have that effect it is severed.

You may cancel in writing at any time before the state approves payment, at no cost and without giving a reason. Email is writing. On cancellation we stop work and, if you ask, send you everything we have gathered so you can continue on your own.

You have the right to file this claim yourself, directly with the state, for free. We have told you where, and we will tell you again if you ask. You are hiring us for convenience and expertise, not because we hold access you lack.

Find My Unclaimed is a private company. We are not a government agency and are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting under the authority of any state treasurer, controller or unclaimed property office.

We use the information and documents you provide only to pursue this claim. We do not sell or share them. Our handling of your Social Security number and documents is described in the privacy policy, which forms part of this agreement.

You confirm that the property you are claiming is yours or that you are legally entitled to claim it, and that the documents you give us are genuine. Claiming property you are not entitled to is fraud against the state.

This agreement is governed by the law of the state in which the property is held, whose unclaimed property statute controls both the fee cap and the validity of this agreement.
